HISTORY
Disabled Veterans Charities was originally incorporated in 1968 as Disabled American Veterans Charities of San Gabriel Valley. It began with one thrift store in Pasadena, but when a thrift store in Glendale was added in 1974, the name was changed to Disabled American Veterans Charities of Greater Los Angeles. The 33-year affiliation with Disabled American Veterans was terminated by mutual consent in 2001 and, since the Charities had expanded beyond greater Los Angeles, the new name became simply Disabled Veterans Charities. Today the Charities operates four large thrift stores, each in the 12,000 to 19,000 square foot range, in Baldwin Park, Glendale, Long Beach, and San Bernardino. Revenues are in the $5 million range, with net income in $750K range. This net income is distributed primarily to carefully chosen programs that offer effective long-term rehabilitation programs for homeless veterans in our local communities. |
